There will be a single spirit that will climb out of the dark spirit energy, and when you kill or bend it, it will drop a cabbage. After you get that, go backwards through the level until you get to a wall that you can break. After that, you'll get a short cutscene showing the previous parts of the level filling up with dark spirit energy.
In Chapter 6, you must play up to the part where you fight the 2 giant spirits. I have no idea how you're supposed to find cabbages, but I found one way to guarantee a cabbage.
